Job Summary
Supports the day-to-day operations of the accounting area including general ledger accounts and financial statements, financial statement preparation, and ensures accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end closing processes. Leads the pre- and post-acquisition integration activities across multiple transactions for the Finance function.
Responsibilities
Essential functions
- Leads and develops senior and staff accountants.
- Conducts mid-year and annual performance reviews.
- Manages day-to-day operations of the accounting functions including all general ledger accounts and financial statements.
- Reviews associated journal entries and reconciliations.
- Accounts for timely and accurate financial statement preparation and works directly with finance teams and other business partners.
- Maintains effective working relationships with customers, vendors, and others related to the company; promote and maintain the identity and reputation of Border States, ensuring customer satisfaction and addressing problems and complaints as they arise.
- Ensures the collection and maintenance of accurate accounting information as requested in accordance with the requirements of the company’s information system.
- Provides accurate, timely documentation of general ledger accounts and other information as requested.
- Ensures accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process and reporting.
- Ensures all required functions are performed meeting the company’s high-quality standards and that all functions are staffed by qualified personnel.
- Supports due diligence on mergers, acquisitions, and integrations by driving the process related to accounting policies, closing practices, and controls.
- Post-closing the position will be a finance partner to the acquired business by understanding the monthly transactions, mapping the monthly trial balance to SAP, reviewing monthly closing schedules, and monitoring actual to budget variances.
- Leads the pre- and post-acquisition integration activities across multiple transactions for the Finance function through planning, prioritizing, organizing, and management of the integration to meet business objectives.
- Prepares purchase accounting and opening balance for each target.
- Assists in the definition of each acquisition’s net working capital calculation and prepares calculation at acquisition close.
- Assesses the Target for Compliance with US GAAP and ensures monthly adjustments are identified required for Compliance (ex: Revenue Recognition).
- Post-Closing - reviews monthly trial balances from acquired entity and consolidates into SAP, reviews monthly reporting packages, analyzes transaction detail from ERP system to ensure accurate classifications and reporting.
- Manages the monthly intercompany process including intergroup settlement and eliminations.
- Ensures services accounting processes and procedures are in compliance with US GAAP
- Coordinates the annual audit, asset-based loan, 401k audit, and ESOP.
Non-essential functions
- Leads and supports special projects.
- Assists in establishing and communicating company goals and requirements.
- Assists in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow.
- Facilitates brainstorming & process improvement atmosphere.
- Collaborates with other corporate teams to improve processes and communication.
- Coordinates and leads team meetings and one-on-ones.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or designate.
Qualifications
- Four-year accounting, finance or business administration degree
- Seven+ years' of progressive accounting or equivalent related work experience
- Three+ years' experience with M&A transactions
- Public accounting experience preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or similar designation is required.
