Job Summary:

Leads and manages a continuum of spiritual care services across a market that aligns with the professional standards of chaplaincy; achieves the expectations outlined in the job description and upholds the mission of Adventist Health. Leads the Spiritual Care department in the absence of the Mission & Spiritual Care Director, as needed. Ensures that patient and staff care is being addressed.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

• Master's of Divinity degree or equivalent subject matter accredited from a US Department of Education Approved Organization: Required
• Completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Education program recognized by ACPE or CPSP: Required
• Three years' clinical chaplaincy experience: Preferred
• Four years' leadership role: Preferred
• Ecclesiastical endorsement from Seventh-day Adventist Church (ACM). Board certified through APC, ACI or CPSP or in process of completion within two years of hire.: Preferred

Essential Functions:

• Assesses chaplains’ strengths and opportunities utilizing the Standards of Practice for Professional Chaplains. Mentors chaplains who are seeking board certification to ensure they are doing so according to established timelines in order to meet credentialing requirements. Assures chaplains are integrated into the multidisciplinary care team across the broader care delivery system, including outpatient services. Creates opportunities for chaplains working within service lines to share best practices. Provides leadership to the department’s clinical shared governance model for chaplains.
• Demonstrates active involvement in quality improvement processes, including annual chaplain goal setting and coaching to improve clinical and relational skills. Reviews patient satisfaction scores and utilizes feedback from patients in designing and implementing improvement opportunities. Monitors quality improvement measures and metrics.
• Assures that spiritual and emotional support, sacramental ministry and spiritual assessment is provided by the appropriately trained and credentialed member of the Spiritual Services team (i.e. certified staff chaplains, on-call/per diem chaplains, ordained clergy, and community clergy). Assures the timely provision of spiritual support to patient, families, and associates, including a process to provide on-call support in times of loss, spiritual distress or crisis.
• Provides clinical consultation and development opportunities, including rounding and theological reflection for staff chaplains. Provides feedback on clinical skills to assure clinical competency and quality. Reviews the clinical competency of chaplains on an annual basis. Provides clinical staff education and project leadership to promote and integrate spiritual care services for the benefit of patient care.
• Directs all activities related to selection, training, development and supervision of staff, including performance management, workload distribution, coaching and skill development, and day-to-day oversight. Manages accurate patient documentation and referral process.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
