The Role:

This role will work closely with PIA’s Chief Risk Officer in managing the activity required to support her in discharging her responsibilities and developing a strong Risk Culture across PIA, with focus on the key area of Enterprise Risk Management.

Working alongside the Senior members of the team in the area of Financial & Operational Risk as peers and colleagues, and supporting a team of junior actuaries and risk professionals,  this role will lead the Risk Function’s ERM inputs to critical activities including Business Planning, ORSA, Risk Appetite Monitoring, KRI development and review, Policy Management and Recovery Planning amongst others. There will also be a limited amount of people management involved.

Key Responsibilities for this role:

  • Coordinate and lead the ORSA & Recovery Planning Processes – liaising with stakeholders across the business, developing and monitoring the plans, drafting key sections of narrative and reviewing inputs from others.
  • Maintenance of the Emerging Risk Framework, the Risk ID and Top Risks Assessment Processes and Climate Risk & Sustainability related initiatives.
  • Contribute to the production of quarterly Risk Reporting to the Board, key reports to Group and other outputs as required.
  • Represent the Risk Function at Key Decision making fora including various management and oversight committees.
  • Support colleagues within the Risk Function as we continue to develop and enhance PIA’s Risk Management Framework and Culture
  • Participate as required in the team’s engagement with Auditors, Peer Reviewers, and the CBI
  • Oversee (and where relevant lead) the implementation of actions and recommendations arising from reports produced by the CRO, HoAF, the Risk Management Function, Auditors etc
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and take personal accountability for the quality of deliverables that you are responsible for,  to support improvement of the overall risk and control environment, customers outcomes and management of PIA’s risks against Risk Appetite.

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Qualified actuary or equivalent, with 5+ years’ experience working in Risk or related areas , ideally in a Life Risk Function or related role.
  • Strong technical and practical knowledge of current and evolving ERM practices, CBI framework and other relevant regulations;
  • Strong management and people skills including career development of team members;
  • Collaborative nature, with ability to work effectively with the CRO and other colleagues in Risk, Actuarial and Finance within PIA and across the Group;
  • Excellent analytic skills, with an ability to constructively challenge and identify issues and opportunities;
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential, in particular the ability to produce high quality reports is paramount;
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and team player;
  • Self-motivated with an ability to actively manage your time, multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
