Mat-Su Health Services (MSHS), a mission-driven, federally qualified health center (FQHC), is seeking a Medical Director to lead clinical excellence, provider engagement, and value-based care transformation in one of Alaska’s fastest-growing communities.
This is a unique opportunity for a physician leader who is passionate about whole-person care, team-based medicine, and advancing population health outcomes while maintaining meaningful clinical practice.
About the Role
The Medical Director serves as a key member of the executive leadership team, partnering directly with the CEO to shape clinical strategy and drive high-quality, patient-centered care across the organization.
This role blends leadership and clinical practice (approximately 60% administrative / 40% clinical) and plays a critical role in advancing innovative care models, including participation in value-based care and the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP).
What You’ll Do
Provide clinical leadership and oversight for physicians, PAs, APRNs, and clinical teams
Lead quality improvement and performance initiatives (UDS, MSSP, population health metrics)
Drive evidence-based care standards and clinical protocols
Oversee provider recruitment, credentialing, performance management, and engagement
Collaborate with executive leadership on strategy, budgeting, and operational planning
Support and expand team-based, integrated care delivery models
Represent MSHS in community partnerships and public health initiatives
Maintain a clinical practice providing outpatient primary care
What We’re Looking For
MD or DO from an accredited program
Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency (Family Medicine preferred)
Board Certified in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
Eligible for or licensed in the State of Alaska
Minimum of 2 years clinical experience
Demonstrated leadership experience or readiness to step into a leadership role

QualificationsPosition Requirements
Education and Experience
Graduate of an accredited medical or osteopathic school with MD, DO or equivalent degree. Successful completion of ACGME accredited Family Practice Residency.
Minimum of 2 years in clinical practice.
Board Certification in Family Practice or Internal Medicine.
Licensed or license eligible by the State of Alaska.
Must maintain an unrestricted license to practice in Alaska.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Proven ability in clinical practice.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with patients, medical staff, clinical support and administrative staff.
Ability to build consensus and work in a team setting.
Strong negotiation and persuasion skills, professional demeanor, attitude, and motivation essential.
Commitment to delivery of high-quality, cost-effective health care.
Ability to follow projects through to completion in a timely manner.
Understanding of group Financial and Management operations.
