Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

The purpose of this position is: Function as the controls expert/trainer within the Maintenance group (all 4 shifts), as well as interact with Engineering for knowledge transfer regarding control systems on new projects. Perform duties that include, but not limited to, troubleshoot, repair, replace, upgrade and maintain plant equipment in accordance with safety, preventative and predictive maintenance processes that meets operations short and long-term goals.

 

This position includes significant duties such as:

  • Focus of job role is to be the controls expert and trainer within the Maintenance group. Lead efforts to help the maintenance team become proficient with understanding PLC’s, inputs and outputs, motors, drives, and various sensors.
  • Document troubleshooting guides and standard practices regarding controls equipment.
  • Maintain Equipment Readiness by providing timely repairs during scheduled/unscheduled down time to process and facility equipment, particularly controls related issues.
  • Evaluate Preventative and Predictive maintenance systems to determine opportunities to reduce corrective maintenance work order frequency.
  • Apply advanced controls knowledge to advance condition based maintenance solutions.
  • Utilize CMMS system to maintain equipment history, analyze equipment history and complete assigned work orders
  • Support Production and Engineering Departments by performing maintenance requirements in the design, upgrade and improvements to new and existing equipment.
  • Work in a team environment that fosters a high-level awareness of safety and mutual respect.
  • Perform simple machinist and fabrication duties.
  • Use a variety of hand tools, power tools and calibration equipment.
  • Flexible shift schedule to cover all 4 shifts.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Ability to maintain, read and interpret mechanical and electrical prints.
  • Ability to communicate well.
  • Ability to work as an individual or in team environment

 

Working Conditions:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

 

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • The equivalency of an accredited apprenticeship program in trade or production maintenance experience preferred.
  • Three years maintenance experience.
  • One year of controls focus.
  • Familiar with AB and G&L PLCS systems, able to perform basic programming.
