THE POSITION
Our roster has an opening with your name on it

FanDuel is expanding its Database Engineering team and is seeking two Senior Database Engineers to join the Sportsbook organization.

The Database Engineering Team is responsible for the stability, scalability and performance of FanDuel’s database estate.  The databases currently used are Informix, MySQL, Elastic Search and Cassandra.  In addition, the team will be assuming responsibility for PostgreSQL as new applications are being developed using that technology.

The team is geographically distributed with members in New York, Atlanta, Pennsylvania and the United Kingdom.

 

THE GAME PLAN
Everyone on our team has a part to play

• Implementation of best practices for PostgreSQL; ability to mentor other team members
• Database Administration (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
• Review of existing implementation and development of new implementations as needed.
• Installation and Configuration management
• Availability Planning - Systems need to be available 24x7
• Monitoring and Alerting
• Configuration of AWS RDS and Aurora
• Infrastructure Planning and Sizing
• Query Tuning and Indexing Strategies
• Automation – Mindset that it is preferable to write a program/script once rather than manually run the same process repeatedly. Knowledge of ansible, or similar automation software, is very important for the role.
• Finally, while this is predominantly a technical role, it will be necessary to communicate effectively and collaborate with project managers and product owners as well as DevOps, network engineering and application teams.

 

THE STATS
What we're looking for in our next teammate

• Knowledge of Linux (Amazon Linux and Rocky are used here).
• Product Evaluation – Ability to identify the need for, evaluate, compare and benchmark potential new software products.
• Cloud Experience in AWS (or another cloud environment). Background in use of cloud based clis. Very helpful to have worked with AWS outpost.
• Background with diagnostic log aggregation software such as DataDog.
• Shell Scripting (essential), Python (extremely good to have), Java (good to have)
• Planning and Troubleshooting – Ability to collaborate with application software engineers, DevOps and network engineering in designing new systems and identifying the root cause of an issue
• Knowledge of basic networking concepts.
