About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Sales and Use Tax Senior Manager responsible for overseeing all aspects of transaction tax compliance and delivering measurable financial value to the firm. As a key leader within the Procure-to-Pay (P2P) organization, this individual plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, efficiency, and end-to-end integration of transaction tax processes across Supply Chain Management.
The role encompasses a broad portfolio of responsibilities, including sales and use tax, VAT, property tax, business licenses, and federal vendor compliance, while aligning tax strategy with enterprise-wide procurement and financial operations. By driving compliance, optimizing tax incentive programs, and identifying opportunities for cost savings and risk mitigation, the Senior Manager directly contributes to the firm’s financial performance and operational excellence.
This position collaborates closely with internal departments, Supply Chain Management, and external service providers. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience in process development, strong tax technical expertise, and a strategic mindset.
In this role, you will:
Team Leadership & Strategy
The Senior Manager will lead and manage a team of indirect tax professionals, overseeing hiring, training, mentoring, and performance management. They will set strategic goals for the team and ensure alignment with broader Procure-to-Pay and compliance objectives. The role requires fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture that emphasizes continuous improvement and professional development.
Sales and Use Tax
This role is responsible for overseeing the preparation, review, and timely filing of multi-jurisdictional sales and use tax returns. The Senior Manager will manage and resolve audits and inquiries from tax authorities, provide technical guidance on complex sales and use tax issues and transactions, and monitor legislative changes to ensure compliance with evolving tax laws.
Federal Compliance & Regulatory Guidance
The Senior Manager will oversee team responsibilities related to Federal Compliance on Accounts Payable vendors. This includes ensuring accurate and timely annual IRS 1099 and 1042 filings, validating IRS W-9 and W-8 forms, and providing guidance to Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Lines of Business (LOBs) to ensure compliance with FATCA, OFAC, and Permanent Establishment risk requirements.
VAT Compliance
The Senior Manager will oversee VAT registration, reporting, and compliance for international operations. They will ensure accurate and timely filing of VAT returns in applicable jurisdictions, collaborate with global teams and external advisors to manage VAT audits and inquiries, and stay current on international VAT regulations to assess their impact on business operations.
Tax Incentives
The Senior Manager will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and optimizing tax incentive programs at the federal, state, and local levels. They will work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external advisors to ensure the company maximizes available credits, exemptions, and abatements. This includes proactively researching new incentive opportunities, maintaining compliance with program requirements, and supporting documentation and reporting for audits or renewals.
Property Tax
This position includes responsibility for the preparation and filing of personal and real property tax returns. The Senior Manager will ensure accurate and timely payment of property tax liabilities, coordinate with the Corporate Properties Group, Finance, and external consultants to gather data and support valuations, and manage property tax audits and appeals as needed.
Business Licenses
The Senior Manager will manage the renewal and compliance process for business licenses across all jurisdictions. They will maintain a centralized calendar and tracking system for license deadlines and requirements and ensure accurate and timely filings and updates for new or closed locations.
Technology & Process Improvement
This role involves leading the implementation and optimization of tax technology tools such as Vertex, as well as ERP system integrations. The Senior Manager will identify and execute opportunities for automation and process enhancements to increase efficiency and reduce risk, while ensuring proper documentation of all tax processes and controls.

- 6+ years of Corporate Tax experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
