We are currently seeking a Safety Officer/QA Specialist for our environmental project at the Downing Groundwater Treatment System (Downing GWTS) within the Denver Federal Center. This role is essential for ensuring the safety and quality assurance of field sampling and other project-related activities. The Safety Officer/QA Specialist will be responsible for implementing safety protocols and conducting quality assurance reviews to maintain the highest standards of safety and data integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and oversee safety procedures and protocols for field sampling projects to ensure compliance with OSHA and other relevant safety standards.
- Create a Health and Safety Plan (HASP) specific to this project.
- Direct on-site health and safety activities.
- Conduct regular safety training sessions for all project staff and ensure that safety practices are understood and adhered to.
- Perform on-site safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures promptly.
- Maintain and update the project's safety plan, including emergency response procedures and safety documentation.
- Coordinate with project managers and field staff to ensure that quality assurance protocols are integrated into all field sampling activities.
- Review field sampling data for accuracy and completeness and validate compliance with project QA/QC standards.
- Develop and maintain QA/QC documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), checklists, and quality control reports.
- Provide support for environmental sampling efforts, ensuring that samples are collected, stored, and transported according to project specifications and best practices.
- Investigate any incidents or non-conformance issues and report findings along with recommendations for improvements.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of one year of experience working on field sampling projects, with a strong emphasis on safety and quality assurance.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards applicable to environmental fieldwork.
- Proven ability to conduct safety trainings and audits, and to enforce safety protocols among a diverse team.
- Familiarity with quality assurance processes and data validation in the context of environmental sampling.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations effectively and maintain a calm and professional demeanor.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications in safety management, such as OSHA 30-hour training, CPR, First Aid, or similar qualifications.
- Experience with QA/QC in environmental projects, especially groundwater or soil sampling.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Health and Safety, or a related field.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)
$60,000 - $100,000
