About the role

We're looking for a Senior Machine Learning (ML) Engineer with a generalist approach. This role is multifaceted, involving the identification of relevant research in fine-grained image classification and Large Language Models (LLMs), and subsequently integrating this knowledge into our product. Utilizing your software engineering expertise, you'll scale and maintain our ML services. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you'll work closely with plant pathologists and other ML engineers. Responsibilities

• Build, train, evaluate, deploy and monitor machine learning models in production

• Work together with plant experts on improving datasets for our plant disease classification models

• Build and maintain tools (e.g. semantic search) that support our plant experts in labeling

• Keep an eye on the latest research and tools

Representative projects

• Develop and deploy a new image-classification model and assess its performance

• Researching out-of-distribution detection methods, evaluating their effectiveness, and integrating the best solutions

• Create a unique dataset to measure the robustness of the image-classification model

• Implement a CI pipeline for custom test set evaluation

•  Expand the image-based diagnosis feature to a multimodal format for integration in a ChatGPT style chatbot

• Design a solution for the automatic evaluation of a custom LLM-based chatbot

• Create an active-learning-based labeling workflow to maximize our labeling workforce's impac
  
•  Revamp our Kubernetes-based model serving infrastructure

Requirements

• Significant experience in software engineering

• At least 3 years of industry experience in training, debugging and deploying machine learning algorithms

• Strong communication skills; able to simplify complex technical topics for non-technical audiences

• Results-oriented mindset with a bias towards flexibility and impact

• Curiosity for ongoing learning and staying current with machine learning developments

• Willingness to take on tasks outside your job description

• Care about the societal impacts of your work
