Role Summary/Purpose
The GE Gas Power Energy Consulting organization offers global clients a wide range of solutions across a spectrum of power generation, delivery, and utilization. Our Grid Code Testing team offers NERC Model Verification Services to provide generation owners with a convenient and cost-effective solution for implementing the NERC standards. In this role, the Senior Engineer will work cross functionally to support power plant owners, grid companies and GE teams. Test equipment and validate compliance with interconnection requirement and validate generator models used for grid planning.
Essential Responsibilities
As the Senior Engineer, you will:
- Execute (proposing, negotiating, planning, leading and reporting) tests at customer power plants to assist in meeting evolving regulatory standards for steady-state performance, dynamic performance, and modeling
- Communicate effectively with clients to support their testing and/or compliance needs, and resolve issues promptly
- Support GE project(s) with power systems engineering expertise, including design and equipment specification studies, and commissioning support
- Support continuous development of generation products based on evolving codes and standards
- Contribute to the development of new tools and improvement of existing tools used by the team
- Actively participate in identifying and cultivating new customers and business opportunities, prepare proposals, project creation / assignment, billing and closing
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electric Power Engineering from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Engineering and/or Product Management in the Power Generation industry OR MS and 3 years of experience
Eligibility Requirements
- Ability and willingness to travel 30% of the time domestically and internationally
Desired Characteristics
- Advanced Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Electric Power Engineering
- Field experience with Thermal power generation turbine and excitation control systems
- Demonstrated knowledge in electrical or electric power engineering, conventional and renewable power plant design / operation
- Load flow, dynamic, short circuit and protection modelling and analyses.
- Proficiency performing power systems analysis using dynamic/transient simulation and other analytical tools such as PSLF, PSS/e, PSCAD and MATLAB
- Demonstrated capability to complete projects on-time and on-budget as either individual contributor or project manager
- Demonstrated ability to perform engineering analysis and design, develop engineering solutions in a team environment, and to provide technical consulting services to customers
- Proficiency with office productivity software (e.g., MS Office, Visio, MS Project)
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g., ability to effectively communicate with all levels of internal and external customers, plant staff. Etc.)
- Six Sigma training certification or equivalent Quality or LEAN certification
- Strong project management and collaboration skills
