Job Description
The Assistant Corporate Controller reports to the Corporate Controller of MBC. The Assistant Corporate Controller is a key contributor on the Finance and Operations management teams, which together ensure financial targets and strategic initiatives are met while protecting assets, mitigating risks and driving a sustainable internal control environment. This position requires leadership of a remote team and effective communication with a wide audience crossing all functions of the organization, including executive management. This position is primarily responsible for internal financial reporting, supporting the Company’s external reporting via SEC filings, technical accounting research, the Company’s accounting policy manual, providing leadership with respect to internal controls, overseeing the accounting for corporate and significant accounting areas (such as debt, pension, warranty reserves, etc.), serving as a key liaison between our financial managers and both the external and internal auditors, and various other ad hoc projects.The Assistant Corporate Controller reports to the Corporate Controller of MBC. Responsibilities
- Manage the preparation, review and timely completion of the Company’s monthly external financial statements. Establish timetable and responsibilities, including identifying tasks and resources.
- Prepare financial statements, footnotes, MD&A analysis and other disclosures in compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements, including researching and implementing new disclosures when required.
- Perform monthly closing activities such as review of consolidated income statement and balance sheet variance analysis, account reconciliations and accounting entries, and completion of other analyses.
- Oversee accounting for areas such as foreign currency, goodwill, debt, pensions, warranties, etc. Coordinate valuation of such items as appropriate.
- Support the preparation and filing of the Company’s proxy statement and other current reports (8-K) as needed.
- Review all relevant disclosure checklists and reporting questionnaires to ensure appropriateness and completeness of disclosures.
- Work closely with the CAO, senior management, external auditors, outside advisors and other functional areas within the Company to ensure accuracy and completeness of SEC filings.
- Provide technical accounting guidance, as needed, related to certain transactions to ensure conformity with U.S. GAAP and established company policies and procedures.
- Oversee the preparation and review of technical white papers, in various subject matter areas including restructuring, accounting for debt issuance costs, accounting for capitalized labor related to internally developed software projects, etc.
- Oversee the updating and review of the Company’s Accounting Policy Manual, including developing a project timeline, identifying preparers and reviewers of specific policies, communicating and training on completed policies, etc.
- Provide technical accounting guidance, as needed, related to certain transactions to ensure conformity with U.S. GAAP and established company policies
