Job Description Summary

Meduflex is the inpatient Float Pool at MUSC. Our primary focus is coverage for callouts and extended leaves of absence (oftentimes family leave). As a Patient Care Technician on the Meduflex Team, you will potentially float to a different inpatient unit each shift at one of our four locations downtown: University Hospital, Ashley River Tower, the Institute of Psychiatry, and Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. Specific to the Meduflex Team, we offer a float differential based on FTE.

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift:

Multiple shifts available, day or night shifts, including weekends and holidays as follows - 

• FT (36 hours/week): 3 12-hour shifts per week
• FT (60 hours/pay period): 2-12 hour shifts/week one and 3-12 hour shifts/week two
• PT (24 hours/week): 2 12-hour shifts per week
• PT (12 hours/week): 1 12-hour shift per week
• PT (12 hours/pay period): 1 12-hour shift every 2 weeks

Job Summary/Purpose: The Patient Care Tech II reports to the Nurse Manager. Under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, The PCT II performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentranlized patient-centered approach to patient care and acheive desired outcomes.

Minimum Training and Education:  A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. One year of patient care work experience in a health care facility, Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT or Paramedic certification, Bachelor’s Degree or enrollment in a healthcare related program with successful completion of a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or Nursing Fundamentals course at an accredited institution or equivalent training preferred.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
