Job Description
Overview:
The Associate Instructional Designer (ID) is an integral part of a fast-paced, innovative, and collaborative team. Reporting to the VP of Academic Quality and Engagement, the Associate ID at Keypath champions quality by applying Keypath’s best practices for the design of accessible, high-quality online learning. The Associate ID builds and maintains online courses within the course development team by conducting functional and accessibility reviews, implementing improvements, and updating courses that are delivered to students enrolled in our partner university programs. In this dynamic role, an Associate ID works alongside experienced Instructional Designers, Web Developers, and the Content Quality team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicate and collaborate effectively as part of a global team
- Use frameworks, templates, and checklists for course design and maintenance
- Demonstrate competency with HTML, third-party tools, and a range of learning management systems (LMS)
- Help to ensure courses meet accessibility requirements and create alternative learning experiences for online components that are not accessible
- Write or revise instructions for activities for clarity and accuracy and edit content as necessary, ensuring it meets quality standards
- With mentoring from experienced IDs, build effective relationships with faculty, demonstrating clear strategies for communication and articulation of expectations and deadlines
- Shadow senior members of ID team to co-design new courses
- Build prepared content in a learning management system (LMS)
- Collaborate with more Senior IDs and faculty to determine effective course-level assessment
- Collaborate on a team to produce and/or source innovative multimedia learning objects (video, audio, interactive objects, simulations, etc.)
- Research and build documentation on accessibility standards or conduct photo research
- Provide regular updates on progress and escalate appropriately to confirm best course of action

- Superior ability with computers and software; some LMS experience preferred
- The ability to adapt and to solve problems proactively and creatively
- Experience evaluating learning outcomes to determine curriculum design changes
- The ability to work with multiple deadlines and multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, changing environment
- The ability to prioritize, adhere to budgets, and meet deadlines
- A proven ability to work as a contributing and collegial member of a team and to communicate proactively within the team environment
- An awareness of accessibility issues and use of assistive technologies in course design
- Comfort in working within project management applications
- The aptitude to work with a range of academic subjects
- Curiosity about new tools and techniques for engaging learners and demonstrating outcomes
Qualifications
Education: a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, instructional design, technology, English, humanities, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
- 1+ years in instructional design consultation, preferably with academics in higher education settings (a plus)
- 1-2 years of experience with online learning or the equivalent work experience preferably in writing, copy editing, teaching, curriculum development, or similar activity; previous exposure to teaching, design, or academic technology a plus
