About the role

DroneUp is seeking an Assistant Controller to join our Accounting team. The Assistant Controller will manage a team of accounting professionals tasked with providing comprehensive financial updates to senior management, evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points. The ideal candidate will guide financial decisions developing, implementing, and maintaining financial controls along with guidelines to ensure that we safeguard the company's assets.


Responsibilities

  • Provide ownership of the accounting ledger and oversee month-end close responsibilities for the company, assuring an 8 day closing process for the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements
  • Manage and work with accounting staff to train and inspire, with a look towards constant improvement, and greater teamwork
  • Write and establish accounting operational policies in a manner that enables the company to scale
  • Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines
  • Assure all tax requirements are being achieved, inclusive of 1099s sales tax, property tax, annual reporting, business licenses, etc.
  • Oversee the fixed asset process, project approval, project tracking, and capitalization of completed projects
  • Implement consistent accounting policies and procedures across federal, state, and local legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and future legislation
  • Manage all external audits, such as 401k, annual financial statement, workers compensation, sales tax, insurance, and banking
  • Manage intercompany processes to assure all subsidiaries have sufficient cash to conduct business and assure the recording and reconciliation of corresponding balance sheet accounts to properly present all legal entities' financial positions
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, receipt of revenue, COGS, and organizational budgets versus actual expenditures
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliation process
  • Establish financial and operating benchmarks in conjunction with CFO
  • Expected annual targets are Tax returns and K-1’s issued before April 1st, and the Annual audit completed by March 15th
  • Other duties as assigned as assigned by the CFO

Requirements

  • National accounting firm experience and a CPA license is preferred
  • 5+ years management experience required
  • Experience in building a robust team-first environment, that appreciates differences, and challenges one another to grow
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong working knowledge of detailed financial data analysis
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and procedures
  • Experience creating financial statements
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process

Salary:

$130,000 - $150,000
