OVERVIEW:
At DICK’S Sporting Goods, interns have the opportunity to work with and learn from the leaders of a growing Fortune 400 company. DICK’S Sporting Goods is returning to campus this year; to recruit, train and develop top collegiate talent into well-rounded retail finance teammates.
During the 11-week summer experience, interns will take on meaningful work assignments and make tangible contributions to the organization’s success. This structured and well-organized program provides on-the-job training, classroom instruction, cross-functional departmental exposure and an end-of-program project presentation.
Potential Areas of Placement
Corporate Accounting Intern:
• Accounting: You will have an opportunity to participate in the accounting and financial reporting cycle of a public company. You will be responsible for ensuring certain expenses are properly recorded, researching variances to budget, and providing supporting work papers to our external auditors. Additionally, you will assist in the preparation of financial reports for senior management, the Board of Directors, external investors, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
• Internal Audit: You will participate in physical inventory inspections and audits at DICK’S Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy stores. In addition, you will participate in the execution of Sarbanes-Oxley testing and execute SOX testing schedules. Also, you will interact with various staff to manager level associates within the organization to further document IA’s understanding of the financial and IT business processes and internal controls and assist Staff and Senior Auditors with Operational and Financial Audits and work on various special projects.
Corporate Finance Intern:
• Financial Planning & Analysis: You will spend the summer as a Financial Analyst Intern providing financial support to our internal business units (e.g. Store Operations, Merchandising, IT, etc.). This includes preparing the appropriate analysis and presenting the results to senior management, preparing competitor benchmarking and analysis, ad hoc analysis and reporting on current business trends.
• Strategic Sourcing: You will assist the team in the identification and execution of sourcing projects. This includes business process reviews, financial analysis, RFP development, supplier calls, eAuctions and contract negotiation. You will have the opportunity to work both on the project management as well as the technical sides of Strategic Sourcing.
Some of your experiences will include:
• Multi day intern orientation to introduce you to the company, the program, Pittsburgh, and your teammates
• Professional development workshops designed to increase your knowledge of the company and the retail industry, as well as develop their business acumen and office professionalism
• Extensive exposure to our senior leadership through our exclusive intern only Executive Speaker Series which includes a private meet & greet with our CEO
• Opportunities to “live the brand” and experience summer fun outside the office through various events
• Fully furnished summer housing is provided for interns who reside outside of the Metro Pittsburgh area or stipend for local interns
• Working a 40 hour work week, Monday – Friday
Qualifications - External
Skills we are looking for:
• A competitive spirit with a passion for results
• An interest and confidence in working with data and numbers; strong mathematical/quantitative skills highly preferred
• Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to independently make data-driven recommendations
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Dynamic written and verbal communication style to read and write reports, as well as communicate cross functionally and vertically throughout the organization
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
We look for potential candidates with:
• Graduation date (MACC Completion) of Winter 2026 or Spring 2027
• A major in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or other related field
• An ability to relocate to the Pittsburgh, PA area for the summer
