Company Description
The System Project Manager is responsible for leading the system team to develop state of the art vehicle access systems that use smart phones and smart devices for access. The ideal candidate would be highly self-motivated and have the experience and passion to dive deep into technical issues and solutions. You will lead, manage and work directly with the product development team including feature owners, system architects, systems engineers, software architects, software engineers, system test engineers, software test engineers and fellow project managers.
Job Description
The System Project Manager is part of the product development team and is responsible for leading the team that designs, develops, validates, and delivers system features and functions.
This role will lead a project from architecture design through validation and will coordinate and lead a local and global multi-disciplined engineering team to achieve that goal.
Responsible for evaluating/developing customer specifications, features and functions including support of translating the system requirements into Rational DOORS, change control board, evaluating requirements and test coverage, and support of issue tracking.
Responsible for estimating and planning the system and software development plan including related verification and validation.
Planning and reporting of system and software engineering, development, and testing costs.
Establish, cultivate, and maintain a positive customer relationship and internal development team as technical first point of contact and engineering lead for system and software feature development.
Ensure system, features, functions, development, validation, and delivery are according to guidelines and processes (e.g. ISO 26262, ASPICE, IATF 16949).
Monitor, track, and drive to completion the technical list of open points.
Regular reporting of project status (technical, budgetary, etc.) to stake holders.
Support all continuous improvement and cost reduction efforts.
Travel to customer sites within southeast Michigan. Some domestic and international travel required (<20%).
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related technical field.
- 5+ years' in automotive product development experience (OEM, tier 1 Supplier).
- 5+ years' of automotive experience
- 3+ years' of software or systems product development engineering experience.

- Aptitude to work independently in an organized and structured fashion with strong analytical skills that supports a systematic approach to problem resolution and strong communication skills to discuss issues/challenges with global development teams and external customers.
- Knowledge to structure, moderate and promote collaboration with international teams, negotiate with customer, support global organization, and understanding with working in global multicultural projects.
- Knowledge with feature and function design and validation, system architecture design, software architecture design, and requirements engineering.
- Knowledge of vehicle access technologies and functions, high interest to work on exciting new vehicle access technologies.
- Knowledge of smart mobile phone and device RF technology including ultra-wideband (UWB), Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and near-field communication (NFC).
- Hands on experience with real-time embedded microcontroller and/or microprocessor-based products.
- Experience in some or all of the following design elements: cybersecurity, automotive safety (ASIL) vehicle access, RF technology, RF homologation, UWB, BLE, NFC, CAN, LIN, analog and digital circuitry, power supplies, layout, EMC.
- Experience with vehicle and system test and release procedures in automotive or related industry.
- Experience in systems / requirements engineering.
- Familiar with FMEA.
- Familiar with IBM DOORS, RTC, ALM and Rapsody.
- Familiar with Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) specifications.
- Hands on experience with Agile development methods (Scrum, Kanban, Lean, etc.).
- Thorough and hands on understanding in the product development lifecycle.
- Good written / verbal communication and presentation skills to discuss issues / solutions with team and external customer.
- Experience with a safety critical product (ISO 26262).
- Proficient in creating and managing project development schedules, change management as well as problem management.
