Retirement Counselor (In Office)

Responsibilities
· Provide confidential retirement counseling to active, inactive, disabled and retired members; assist with benefit computation, methods of retirement benefits, payments and taxability of retirement income and ancillary retiree benefits. Handle member inquiries to completion
· Calculate various pension applications, estimates and re-calculations.
· Process inquiries for pension applications, pension estimates, and return to work
· Verify, establish, and re-establish pension member eligibility for new or existing members, spouses and dependents using the system of choice (Imaging System, V3)
· Maintain updated records and files on all pension claims, applications, estimates and re-calculations.
· Generate correspondence to pensioners, participants, surviving spouses, beneficiaries and employers
· Provide benefit eligibility requirements for Pension to prospective pensioners and beneficiaries.
· Request required proof of wages or hours worked as necessary; forward documentation to the Eligibility Department to update member eligibility records
· Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by management.
Qualifications
· High School Diploma or GED required; Some College or Degree preferred
· Minimum of two (2) years experience processing pension claims/calculations or two (2) years demonstrated work experience conducting numerical calculations and analysis required
· Good key boarding skills (minimum 6,000 kph and 6% or less error rate) required
· Bilingual (Russian, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, French, Polish) preferred
· Working knowledge of retirement and pension benefits, regulations, and procedures a plus (1199SEIU Health Care Employees Pension Fund, Greater New York Pension Fund, Homecare Employees Pension Fund)
· Knowledge of web-based applications, health systems, good navigation skills (Vitech, Imaging System)
· Excellent analytical and mathematical skills; basic knowledge of Microsoft Word required and Outlook & Excel preferred
· Good communication skills both verbal and written; able to communicate in a clear and concise manner and initiate own correspondence
· Able to multi-task, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and follow through on assignments
· Detail oriented and able to work independently a must
· Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
· Good customer service skills and ability to maintain a pleasant attitude; provide professional and courteous service to members
