IT Engineer II, Virtual Infrastructure

SUMMARY  

The Sr. IT Engineer II, Virtual Infrastructure will be responsible for developing and maintaining Arete’s virtual infrastructure to optimize the alignment of our computing and storage infrastructure with our services delivery teams operational requirements and Arete’s security standards. This role will work closely with Arete’s IaaS provider to optimize the configuration, deployment and maintenance of virtual resources in accordance with pre-established change management policies.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES  

• Designs, deploys and manages virtual desktops and applications aligned to the unique business and security requirements of the business functions leveraging VMWare Horizon VDI as appropriate
• Leverages open-source IaC to define and provision infrastructure needed to support operations, training and R &D
• Develops and maintains governance procedures for configuration standards, resource utilization, and life cycle management from provisioning to decommissioning
• Manages and monitors resource utilization, performance and compacity
• Manages and optimizes storage solutions to ensure data availability, integrity, security and alignment with Arete’s risk management practices to prevent over retention of data
• Defines and implements appropriate backup and recovery capabilities
• Develops and maintains documentation for system configuration, operational and functional requirements
• Aligns with IaaS provider for ongoing administration of Hyperconverged hardware and hypervisor administration
• Manages budget and plans for infrastructure utilization, capacity increases or expansion.
• Implements and maintains ongoing operational practices to ensure proactive monitoring and performance reviews are conducted to identify and address potential issues, optimize network traffic and security
• Requires on-call availability to address critical incidents and off hour support for change management
• Provides tier 2 and tier 3 problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution including but not limited to connectivity problems, hardware or software malfunctions and security incidents
• Collaborates with Aretes IaaS provider to troubleshoot complex issues and ensure seamless operation across the infrastructure
• Ensures the IaaS provider adheres to SLA’s and contract obligations in the delivery of quality services, performance against established manage service procedures, and evolve alignment and operational procedure as needed to address issues or discrepancies as they arise
• May perform other duties as assigned by management

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

• Relevant experience developing and maintaining virtual environments using VMware ESXI, vSphere and VDI solutions

• Proficient in configuring and managing infrastructure resources and optimizing deployment through open source IaC solutions to support the agile deployments needs for infrastructure by our service delivery teams
• Manage overall performance and resource allocation across Arete’s storage solution (Dell PowerScale) and computing services (Dell vxRail)
• Demonstrate an understanding of full stack security as it translates from on-premises to cloud
• Demonstrate a move fast mindset as business circumstances change, by quickly orchestrating changes and actively steering the process to a positive outcome
• Successfully implement deadline driven projects, ability to plan and execute small- medium size projects independently or when leading a small team

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field; Master’s or Advanced degree preferred
• 5+ years of experience Infrastructure engineering and minimum 3 years of experience in virtualization
• Relevant certification (CCNA, CCNP, CISSP, CompTIA security +) are highly desirable
