Research Technician I – Chen Lab
Location: Duke University, Durham, NC

The Chen Lab at Duke University is seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented Research Technician I to join our translational cancer research group. Our lab focuses on understanding the mechanisms of cancer progression and metastasis, as well as conducting preclinical studies of therapeutic agents targeting these disease processes.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Management

• Organize lab space and supplies
• Maintain laboratory equipment
• Manage inventories of animals, cell lines, and reagents

Animal Work

• Perform rodent husbandry and maintain mouse colonies
• Assist with tumor growth and drug efficacy studies
• Conduct tumor cell inoculations (subcutaneous and orthotopic via survival surgeries)
• Administer treatments and monitor animal health
• Measure tumors using calipers or in vivo imaging

Experimental Support

• Perform H&E and IHC staining (training provided)
• Maintain routine cell cultures
• Assist with molecular biology techniques such as Western blotting and qPCR

Collaboration

• Work closely with other lab members on specific research projects as needed

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Animal Science, or a related scientific field

Required Skills:

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Experience handling rodents

Preferred but Not Required:

• Experience with H&E and IHC staining
• Familiarity with molecular biology techniques

Training will be provided for candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.

Minimum Qualifications (Duke HR Standard)

Work requires an Associate's degree in biology, zoology, psychology, or a related scientific field. No additional experience is required beyond the education/training requirement, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Pay Range:
$18.00 – $25.97 per hour, based on experience, education, and internal equity.
