Essential Responsibilities:

The Electrical Substation Project Engineer is responsible for all aspects of high-voltage (HV) and extra high-voltage (EHV) substation design. Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and coordinate all technical aspects of AC power substation projects as part of a grid solutions integration projects business
  • Serve as the technical lead on assigned engineering projects, including schedule development and updates, value engineering, planning and tracking of design reviews, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC).
  • Develop key design documents such as power single-line diagrams, plan and elevation drawings, general substation arrangements, and layouts for HV bus, cables, equipment, conduit, wiring, grounding, and control buildings.
  • Provide oversight and review of proposal-stage deliverables during the Inquiry-to-Order (ITO) process. This includes conceptual engineering, BOM development, technical specification preparation and review, sourcing support, and responses to customer clarifications.
  • Act as the single point of contact for technical issues with the customer and project manager for medium sized projects.  For large and complex projects the lead project engineer may report in to an Engineering Director.
  • Support the engineering manager in maintaining team productivity and meeting billable hour targets.
  • Direct engineers and designers, coordinating with sourcing and project teams to meet technical requirements, control costs, and adhere to schedules.
  • Lead coordination across engineering disciplines to ensure integrated, end-to-end solutions.
  • Accountable for team performance and delivery of high-quality products that meet customer critical-to-quality (CTQ) requirements—on time and within budget.
  • Prepare equipment specifications and contractor work scopes, solicit and evaluate vendor quotations, and support equipment selection for components such as circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, disconnects, cable systems, and protection/control systems.
  • Support final commissioning and technical interface with customers and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in industrial or utility HV/EHV substation design, or a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) with relevant experience.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%, including internationally, in compliance with company travel and tax policies.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with PG&E substation design standards is strongly preferred.
