About the role

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient need, identifies the urgent or emergent care priority, and collaboratively provides direct care, applies appropriate interventions, and evaluates patient progress. The ED RN evidences skill in the use of various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions appropriate to manage life-threatening and routine emergency situations. The ED RN utilizes the principles of relationship based care to alieviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain/discomfort and safety. He/She assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups, their families, and support systems as appropriate.
na Qualifications EDUCATION: Minimum: • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Preferred: • BSN LICENSE: Minimum: • Currently licensed by NYS as a registered professional nurse. PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS: Minimum: • BLS, ACLS, PALS required through the RQI system during clinical orientation. • Basic Coronary Care within 6 months of hire. • CPI certification within 90 days of hire. Preferred: • Certification by the Emergency Nurses Association is recommended within 2 years of hire. • TNCC recommended within 2 years of hire. WORK EXPERIENCE: Minimum: • One year acute hospital experience as a registered professional nurse. • Demonstrates competence in patient assessment, basic interventions, patient safety, and patient relations. Preferred: • Previous ED experience SKILLS: Minimum: • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and ability to deal with the people in a professional and courteous manner. • Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities and enhance the spirit of teamwork through effective role modeling. • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills. • Computer literacy • Moderate sedation competency within six months of hire into this position. Preferred: • Experience with Microsoft Office products and electronic medical record
