Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for a highly motivated, detailed oriented, self-driven individual to join our Information Services team as a Database Administrator. Duty post is located at 1110 W. Washington Street, Ste. 450, Phoenix AZ 85007.

The Database Administrator is responsible for administering, testing, and implementing MS Azure Managed instances, MS SQL Server, and MS Access database systems. This role installs, monitors, and directs proactive and reactive measures to ensure the availability, integrity, confidentiality, and reliability of database systems while coordinating changes as needed.

 

Job Duties:

Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Installs, monitors, and directs proactive measures for MS Azure Managed instances, MS SQL Server instances and SSRS configuration; performs database and reporting services maintenance, including moving, rebuilding, or changing database objects as required in production, testing, and development environments.
• Manages user accounts and maintains database instances across multiple environments; ensures stable connectivity between MS Access front-ends and SQL Server back-ends while troubleshooting query needs and index creation.
• Implements and reviews appropriate security guidelines and mechanisms to safeguard database systems; ensures the confidentiality and reliability of all organizational data through rigorous oversight.
• Translates user needs into sound database designs; documents data requirements in logical Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERD) and constructs data decomposition and flow diagrams.
• Develops, tests, and performs database migration procedures; assists in developing purge/archive criteria and procedures for historical application data within the relational model environment.
• Prepares and maintains comprehensive technical documentation and SDLC artifacts; develops database administration tools, utilities, and standard operating procedures.
• Proactively solves problems and coordinates the resolution of trouble calls with the help desk; responds promptly to customer needs with a customer-centric mindset.
• Prioritizes and plans work activities to meet goals; works collaboratively in teams and across organizations to synthesize feedback and adjust plans accordingly

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

KNOWLEDGE OF:
• General working knowledge of physical data models, technical architecture, and system interfaces.
• Knowledge of administering, testing, and implementing MS Azure Managed instances.
• Solid knowledge of MS SQL Server, SSRS, and MS Access.

SKILLS IN:
• Demonstrated ability to model and design relational databases and install/support RDBMS.
• Ability to configure and maintain SSRS environments.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
• Customer Service

ABILITY TO:
• Ability to work collaboratively in teams.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with discretion.

Selective Preference(s):

Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience) plus 1 – 3 years of experience in database administration with a focus on relational database management systems (RDBMS).
