Your New Role

      The Senior Director, DTC Content Accounting is responsible for the accounting for domestic DTC content, including legacy HBO, Max and D+ content streams. This position will work closely with the International DTC Content Accounting and Networks Content Accounting on policy and systems coordination, as well as Production Finance, West Coast Corporate Finance and Mexico City FP&A teams. This role is a key leadership position within the DTC Controller organization with direct oversight of teams in Atlanta, Knoxville and Mexico City.

Your Role Accountabilities

  • Lead the Domestic DTC content accounting team of approximately 15+ employees located in the US and Mexico. Oversight responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, ensuring all deadlines are met, ensuring complete and accurate content accounting (see below for further details), and implementing process improvements to drive operational efficiencies and effectiveness. Coordinate with international accounting teams on consistency and accuracy of content accounting.
  • Ensure DTC content is accounted for correctly and in accordance with US GAAP, in particular ASC 920 and ASC 926. Accounting requirements include properly recording costs during production; determining useful lives/amortization profiles for content programs; ensuring accurate content amortization is recorded; proper disposal of abandoned, impaired, or retired content programs; complete and accurate financial statement presentation, including BS, P&L, Cash Flows, and SEC disclosures; accounting for participation and residual expenses; assessing accounting treatment for non-standard content agreements; performance of content accounting related financial statement analytics. Work closely with Finance and Business Affairs to exchange information and confirm accounting treatment during each stage of production and monetization.
  • Plan, manage and review the annual and quarterly quantitative and qualitative content amortization analysis for DTC programs. This area represents a significant accounting estimate and requires a high degree of management judgment and proper review of methodologies and assumptions used in the analysis. Lead quarterly Content Asset Review (CAR) to identify any content assets performing inconsistent with the film group.
  • Provide leadership and management of key system and process integrations in the Content Accounting area for S/4 SAP conversion and related content boundary systems.  Advise international Content Accounting teams on consistent use and optimization of S/4 functionality.
  • Establish and build relationships with key stakeholders in Finance, Shared Services, Business and Legal Affairs, and other areas. Leverage experiences to grow into the subject matter expert in content accounting and deliver high quality direction to the business in the content accounting space
  • Actively participate in Controllership leadership meetings and other ad-hoc tasks as assigned. Develop team members through mentoring and coaching. Advocate and encourage team participation in company initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

  • At least 12 years of work experience in an accounting role and a strong understanding of US GAAP and SOX requirements
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a supervisory/leadership role
  • Accounting leadership experience in media & entertainment industry
  • BS/BA in Accounting from an accredited university
  • Master’s degree in Accounting or MBA a plus
  • CPA required
  • Proven accounting experience with US GAAP accounting requirements a plus
  • Demonstrated background successfully leading a large global accounting team, including teams located in international offices
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and strong organizational skills
  • Experience with SAP preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office
