Hours are M-F, 7:30a-4pm (can be flexible), no holidays or weekends

This position is responsible for supporting the HIM Operations team in the East and West Regions of IU Health as they collect records, prepare and scan records, then analyze charts for required elements. This position will also support team members who release medical records while complying with HIPAA requirements by following policies and procedures. The person in this position assists the department manager with timekeeping, maintaining department schedules, performing quality assurance audits, and reporting on team metrics. These tasks require attention to detail and efficiently producing high-quality results. This position is part of a highly motivated and compassionate team who supports each other and provides great service to our customers (patients, caregivers, providers, and external facilities).

This position is hybrid – on-site at IU Health Ball Memorial, White River Office building, 1200 W. White River Blvd, Muncie, IN 47303.  Once trained, a hybrid schedule is possible. The hybrid schedule is customizable and must include 1 on-site day per week, working remotely when on-site tasks are complete, or other possibilities. This will include occasional travel to other IU Health facilities: Arnett, Ball Memorial, Fort Wayne, Frankfort, Jay, Tipton, White Memorial, and the RCS Shadeland building.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support to HIM team members who retrieve and process records, release records for release of information, and analyze charts for missing documentation. 
  • Assist with department tasks when needed to ensure department coverage. 
  • Timekeeping and schedule maintenance.
  • Perform quality assurance audits, share feedback, generate monthly reports.
  • Collaborate with peers and route team member assignments as needed to ensure adequate coverage for timely completion of tasks locally and in other regions.
  • Reviews productivity data for team member daily activities and assists with monthly reporting.
  • Assists with monthly updates with team members, provide coaching and training as needed.
  • Applies IU Health policies and procedures, state, and federal regulations which govern the release of protected health information, including behavioral health, drug/alcohol abuse records, adoption records, and records containing information about communicable diseases.
  • Provides customer service for providers and patients who need patient health information for continuity of care and other purposes; telephone courtesy and customer service skills required in addition to knowledge of how to locate and print the requested patient information from the electronic record systems as well as historical legacy system(s).
  • Maintains effective working relationships with a variety of team members in other units and departments.
  • Handles both verbal and written communication with team members and customers throughout the entire IU Health system.

• 2 years of experience with Indiana University Health Revenue Cycle Services strongly preferred.
• Requires expert knowledge of revenue cycle requirements and regulations.
