About the role

Job Description

RESPEC, a nationally recognized engineering consulting company, is seeking a talented and energetic Civil Engineering Design Center Lead who will work out of our Rapid City office. Projects to be delivered may include the analysis and design of civil engineering features related to flood control facilities (detention and conveyance), stream restoration, and transportation drainage infrastructure. In addition, projects may include design and construction document preparation for grading, drainage, streets, utilities, and stormwater management related to commercial and residential development projects. 

The Civil Engineering Design Center Lead will oversee the delivery of a variety of engineering assignments. It is anticipated that projects initially delivered will be located primarily in Colorado, Florida, and New Mexico. The Lead will direct, guide, and mentor a team of engineers and technicians in the Rapid City office delivering these out of state assignments. In addition, the Lead will routinely collaborate with RESPEC CO, FL, and NM managers. Work scope and schedules will be defined in conjunction with the local geographic managers. Ensuring high-quality engineering reports, designs, and construction documents, produced from the Rapid City office, will be a key responsibility. 

Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related engineering field with 10+ years of experience in the civil engineering field that includes project management experience. The candidate must be a registered Professional Engineer.  Additional qualifications include the following:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in managing teams of engineers to provide exceptional engineering services
  • Experience in mentoring staff
  • Experience preparing plans, specification, and engineering estimates
  • Experience obtaining local government/state agency approvals for civil engineering projects
  • Experience with AutoCAD/Civil3D and GIS
  • Practical application of the various hydrology/hydraulics software including, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis, etc.
  • Experience in developing drainage reports and/or drainage master planning studies.

We enjoy flexible work hours and have an open office environment to share ideas. The Rapid City office is RESPEC’s corporate headquarters and work delivered will be in a variety of locations where RESPEC has local offices.   

Salary Range: $110,000 - $150,000 annually (Compensation for the role will depend on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown).
