We are looking for a Duty Fire Safety Officer, this role acts as first responder to any fire activations and be responsible for management of fire evacuations in CWML managed Buildings and Estate areas in Canary Wharf.

Job Description
Working a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern covering days, nights, and weekends (40-hour contract).
Key responsibilities include acting as the first responder to all fire alarm activations across Canary Wharf managed buildings and estate areas. The role works closely with the Fire Safety & Environment and Building Management teams to ensure full compliance with current Health & Safety legislation and fire safety procedures.
The successful candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for attending Fire activations and will lead and coordinate fire-related evacuations across managed buildings and estate locations when required.
Duties include maintaining a comprehensive understanding of fire strategies, fire safety systems, and associated cause-and-effect operations across all managed properties, while ensuring awareness of site-specific fire risks and hazards.
The role is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date fire emergency documentation within Fire Command Centres, ensuring all service manuals and operational information remain accessible.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Providing management support for the Estate and Infrastructure Car Parks during weekends and out-of-hours operations.
- Supporting maintenance and estate management teams during nights and weekends to ensure planned works are completed safely and effectively.
- Assisting the Fire, Safety & Environment Department in delivering fire safety training to employees and tenants.
- Monitoring maintenance and construction activities that may impact fire safety provisions.
- Conducting fire safety audits and inspections of service areas, plant rooms, and associated facilities to maintain high safety and presentation standards.
- Facilitating familiarisation visits for local Fire Brigade teams.
- Supporting Building Management teams with statutory testing of fire safety systems, including alarms and emergency lighting.
- Producing weekly reports detailing fire alarm activations and incident responses for the Fire Safety & Environment Manager.
- Reviewing fire risk assessments and providing recommendations where appropriate.
- Attending departmental and operational meetings as required.
- Carrying out any additional reasonable duties requested by the Fire Safety & Environment Manager.
The role requires the individual to remain contactable at all times whilst on duty in order to respond promptly to incidents involving managed buildings, liaise with tenants, and escalate matters to senior management where necessary.
Qualifications
- Experience in a fire safety role or building management/facilities management role is essential, together with a relevant safety related qualification, such as NEBOSH Fire Certificate, Fire Safety Manager etc.
- Thorough knowledge of relevant UK legislation, standards, and codes (RRO, BS 9999 etc.)
- Competencies:
- Ability to remain calm and maintain a clear thought process in potentially hectic situations.
- Possess influencing skills with the ability to influence behaviours at all levels.
- Be willing to undertake training and a personal development program.
- Ability to demonstrate good customer service skills.
Desired Skills
- Must possess excellent training and presentation skills, together with good verbal and written communication skills.
- Be computer literate and have good administration skills.
