Location - This position will temporarily be located in Arbuckle, CA and then move to Sacramento, CA.
Position Summary:
The Production Planning Manager is responsible for leading the production planning team and ensuring accurate scheduling of manufacturing operations. The role requires close coordination with procurement, manufacturing, logistics, and sales teams to align supply with demand while optimizing capacity, minimizing costs, and meeting customer delivery expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the master production schedule based on demand forecasts, capacity, and material availability
- Coordinate with Procurement, Supply Planning, and Manufacturing teams to ensure material and resource readiness
- Optimize production schedules to meet customer delivery timelines and minimize changeovers or downtime
- Monitor key planning metrics such as schedule adherence, capacity utilization, inventory levels, and OTIF (On-Time-In-Full)
- Analyze supply and demand imbalances and adjust production plans proactively
- Lead Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) processes and meetings
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Sales, Operations, Quality, and Logistics) to ensure alignment of planning with business goals
- Drive continuous improvement in planning processes, tools, and systems
- Support new product launches and production transitions with accurate planning input
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in production planning, supply chain, or manufacturing operations
- Experience with ERP systems and production planning tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JDA, NetSuite)
- Proven track record of managing planning processes in a manufacturing environment
Skills and Competencies:
- Expertise in production scheduling, materials planning (MRP), and capacity planning
- Proficiency in Excel and planning software (e.g., advanced planning systems)
- Familiarity with manufacturing workflows and BOMs (Bill of Materials)
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills for forecasting and inventory optimization
- Ability to interpret data and generate actionable insights
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and demand planning tools
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills across departments
- Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and handle multiple project priorities
- Strategic thinker with a continuous improvement mindset
Preferred Qualifications:
- APICS certification (CPIM, CSCP)
- Lean or Six Sigma certification
- Experience in high-mix, low-volume or just-in-ti
