Occ Summary
This position collaborates with healthcare provi ders by performing avariety of clerical duties to support patient care. Duties includegreeting patients and visitors, answering the telephone, responding topatient's requests, accessing the electronic medical recor d(EMR),scheduling appointments and providing general clerical support as neededby the department. This position will consistently exhibits excel lentcustomer service skills.
Work Performed
Answer pa tient signals and relay request to appropriate individual.Place calls fo r consultations as neededUnderstand and is able to use the manual back u p system as needed.Assemble and maintain patient charts from admission t hrough dischargePrepare and upload paper documents into the electronic m edical record(EMR).Navigate electronic medical record, access patient in formation, generatereports, schedule appointments and manage task list.U se available technology to request and coordinate patient transport.Assi gn nursing staff to communication systems.Assist in reviewing clerical d uties and responsibilities with new staffmembers.Order supplies for the unit; maintain inventory and replenish asnecessary.Copy, file, mail and/ or distribute materials as appropriate.Maintain records as required by t he unit (i.e. time sheets, continuingeducation information, etc.).Schedu le maintenance in automated schedule system as directed by NurseManager or designeeGenerate reports as directed by Nurse Manageror designee (Ex ample:compliance)Participate in review of activities and processes for a rea of work.Assists in implementing changes to effect continual improvem ent inservices provided; and complies with regulatory and legal requirem ents.Exhibit professional communication skill when answering the telepho neand interacting with patients, visitors and other staff members.Round and greet patients each shift and explain their role.Greets patients, vi sitors, physicians and employees in a pleasant mannerand refers to appro priate areas as needed.Answers phones, screens and refers calls as appro priate, deliversmessages and provides information to patients, visitors and personnelupon request.Assist unit management in tracking inventory, stocking issues andmaintaining adequate patient care supplies.Perform ot her related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of HIS procedures and o f manual procedures when the system isdown.Successful completion of TJC and other regulatory/designatedrequirements within the probationary peri od.Knowledge and understanding of telephone etiquette.Knowledge of gener al clerical practices and procedures.Knowledge of spelling and medical t erminology.Ability to apply specific departmental rules and regulations relating toverifying, processing and maintaining records and forms.Abili ty to organize and set priorities.Ability to operate computer terminal a nd other office equipment.Ability to write legibly.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public. Ability toestablish and maintain effective relationships with other personnel.
