We are looking for a skilled Senior Associate, Packaging Engineer level for our Global Consumer Business, Pest Control category to design, develop, and optimize packaging solutions for our diverse range of consumer products. As the Senior Associate, Packaging Engineer you will have a strong background in packaging design, materials science, and manufacturing processes, with a passion for innovation and sustainability. This role offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to deliver packaging solutions that meet both functional requirements and aesthetic standards while minimizing environmental impact.
The Senior Associate, Development Engineering Packaging, is responsible for the technical development of product packaging. This role will design and commercialize new products/packages, line-extensions, and lead technical tasks related to different business needs driven by organizational and market requirements. Participating in cross-functional teams, providing technical expertise to ensure that the key project objectives are present, applicable, and robust. You are expected to concurrently manage multiple project elements and a variety of project activities with shifting priorities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Identify and apply new and existing packaging technologies towards the development of innovative new products and the enhancement of existing products and lead the packaging development of commercialization projects for the Global Pest Control Business.
Research and evaluate materials and components for the development of cost-effective, high-quality packaging solutions that consumers find appealing, easy to use, and compelling to allow S.C. Johnson to win.
Provide strong technical leadership within a cross-functional team to drive the design and development of innovative new products or optimization of existing packages.
Design, coordinate, and complete performance and compatibility testing of packaging component changes.
Execute packaging development projects by creating and following effective project timelines and related success criteria to realize on-time project completion dates.
Collaborate with multifunctional core teams (R&D, Design, Marketing, Marketing Research, and Supply Chain) to successfully identify, develop, and launch new products in an accelerated manner.
Lead evaluation of technical performance and stability of combined package and formula systems, collaborating closely with formulators and processing engineers throughout development.
Generate robust packaging component specifications, finished good product specifications, and bills of materials.
Provide technical expertise and problem-solving skills to evaluate and correct package-related issues to maintain production schedules and product quality.
Utilize available external resources (patent literature, suppliers, etc.) to identify and recommend applicable new technologies to support the Pest Control Business.
Draft qualification plans for new packaging components, equipment modifications, and site moves. Plan and execute line trials at both internal and external manufacturing sites, author technical reports & documents.
Lead the packaging conversation at Technical Reviews and be responsible for completing the technical deliverables including BOM setup, robust packaging component, validation test plans, and technical report on results.
Documentation of specification reviews with cross-functional partners, line qualification plans, technical reports on results, and input on technical risks and mitigation plans.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Bachelor’s Degree in packaging engineering, packaging science or related field of engineering disciplines (e.g. Mechanical, Materials,) and at least 2 years of relevant work experience OR Master’s Degree in packaging engineering, packaging science or related field of engineering disciplines (e.g. Mechanical, Materials,) and 0 years of experience
