Position Overview:The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is seeking an Academic Advisor for the College of Engineering and Information Technology. The Academic Advisor will provide advising support for Computer Science and Engineering majors in COEIT.

Responsibilities:The Academic Advisor for the College of Engineering and Information Technology will provide advising support for undergraduate students in COEIT.
Specific duties include:
- Meet regularly with COEIT students to provide course suggestions, review graduation requirements, discus academic pathways, provide advising clearance, and make appropriate referrals
- Assist with new student orientation in summer and winter, including providing course recommendations
- Be responsive to student question via email, phone calls, or in person and virtual meetings
- Explain and enforce policies and procedures
- Work with academic and other university departments to answer student questions and provide support
- Assist with administrative activities such as gateway processing, requesting substitutions, approving student forms
- Provide information to prospective students and families
- Assist with advising related events and presentations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor's Degree
One year experience in advising or professional experience in programs of assistance to students in higher education.
Must have: excellent organizational, interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills; the ability to use relevant technology and software to support advising activities.
Preferred Qualifications:Master's Degree preferred with an emphasis on Counseling/Advising/Student Affairs/Higher Education.
Knowledge of college student development principles and experience advising diverse a diverse pool of students desired.
