We're on the hunt for a principal economist with expertise to take the lead and transform the complexities of transportation supply chain market dynamics into actionable insights for the greatest brands on earth. As a subject matter expert and integral part of our research and economics team, you will not only uncover and share market trends with the Breakthrough team and our clients but also craft novel, in-depth research and analysis using robust data – including data generated by our Breakthrough Ecosystem – that will shape the freight transportation industry's future. Your work will fuel product development, enhance global supply chain strategies, and be pivotal in forecasting the future of freight and energy markets. Subject Matter Expertise:
- Maintain expertise in the dynamics and current activity of international freight transportation markets.
- Significant experience analyzing and interpreting publicly available freight market metrics and macroeconomic data.
- The ideal candidate will be passionate about continuous learning and growing their subject matter expertise of North American and international freight markets.
Research:
- Contribute research and analysis toward freight, fuel, and sustainability market publications, webcasts, and other media, including delivery in a professional studio setting.
- Lead research to support product development and enhance existing Breakthrough data products and services.
Analysis:
- Take the lead in managing client needs for data and insights arising from functions across the Breakthrough business.
- Play a critical role in the development of forecasting models that support transportation freight, energy, and sustainability initiatives.
Delivery:
- Create executive-level market posts, summaries, and presentations to transportation supply chain professionals.
Collaboration:

- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as: Economics, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Analytics, a related field, or equivalent industry experience. A master’s degree or additional certifications are preferred.
- 10+ years of professional experience as an analyst or economist
- A proven track record of analyzing macroeconomic data and presenting market insights to business leaders.
- Effective presentation and communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical, industry concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Significant cross-functional project management leadership experience.
- Data analysis, analytics, and visualization mastery.
- Quantitative statistical and economic modeling experience, including statistical regression and other economic modeling techniques.
- Experience producing insights from programming languages or data analytics tools.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.
