Summary

This is a responsible, technical, and professional position with responsibilities relating to the overall administration of the financial accounting and reporting functions of the City. This position works closely with and reports to the Fiscal Operations Supervisor.

Examples of duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Review and post required General Journal and Adjusting Journal Entries.
2. Responsible for closing the monthly books in a timely manner.
3. Develops reports for the accounting operations.
4. Responsible for monthly account reconciliations.
5. Responsible for the annual physical parts inventory.
6. Responsible for bank reconciliations.
7. Assist with the year-end closing activity, up to and including the audit and ACFR.
8. Assist with meeting department performance measures.
9. Assist with the fixed assets, grant and pension accounting functions.
10. Attend FGFOA meetings, webinars, etc. to keep up to date with GASB changes affecting the City.
11. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• Minimum of three (3) years work experience, preferably in governmental area. 
• Master’s degree in accounting or business administration preferred. 
• Must possess advanced computer skills and the ability to create complex analysis using software applications.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Credentials preferred, CPA, CGFO, CPFO or capability and willingness to sit for exams.
