Summary:

The Charge Therapist is responsible for directing and assisting in the respiratory care activities of the department they are assigned to. The Charge Therapist staff will be expected to be active in staff supervision, maintaining established productivity, development of others, performance improvement initiatives and interdepartmental communications. Provides patient care to neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Work requires successful completion of the requirements of an educational program in respiratory therapy as approved by the Ohio Respiratory Care Board. Must hold and maintain an active license to practice respiratory care in the State of Ohio and furnish this information to the department. Must be registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care.

  • Must maintain certification in Basic Life Support, ACLS, PALS, and NRP. NPS preferred.

  • Two years’ experience as a respiratory therapist preferred. Must possess current knowledge of all critical care procedures of respiratory care commensurate with an acute care setting in adult, neonatal and pediatric areas.

  • Must maintain Life Flight Safety class and be able to go on patient transportations in include ambulance and air (SVMMC only).

  • Must have interpersonal skills to deal with the complexities of working with patience and specialty department personnel.

  • Must possess analytical skills to deal with clinical problems, to prioritize work, and direct the work of others.

  • Leadership experience and skills preferred.

  • Must be able to effectively lead through all routing and emergency situations. Demonstrate effective prioritization without direct supervision.

Working Conditions

  • Lift weights of approximately 20lbs, must be able to move freely a large “H” size cylinder of oxygen on a cart.

  • Normal hospital environment where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and the like.

  • Works in a normal hospital environment and may come in contact with infectious agents from patients or equipment.

Leadership Responsibility

  • Provides leadership to RCP1, LRCP, RCP2, RCP4, RCP4, and Respiratory Operations Tech

HOURS 

  • Shift: Nights

  • Hours per pay period: 72

  • Weekend, holiday and on-call rotation required per department policy
