Senior/Principal Scientist, Translational Physiology, Oncology

Position Description:

Calico is seeking a highly motivated Senior/Principal Scientist to join the Translational Physiology team. The successful candidate will lead our in vivo pharmacology efforts for Calico’s oncology programs. Working in cross functional project teams, the selected candidate will serve as a subject matter expert for all aspects of in vivo models of cancer including cancer intrinsic and immuno-oncology modalities. Key responsibilities include developing and executing program-specific strategies for in vivo pharmacology, which encompasses establishing PD biomarker-efficacy relationships, assessing combination activity with standard of care agents, and prioritizing cancer indications and patient segments. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead preclinical in vivo pharmacology studies for oncology 
• Design and execute pharmacodynamic (PD) and efficacy models tailored to the specific needs of each program
• Establish preclinical in vivo PoC and PK/PD relationships to support translational research
• Contribute to the development of preclinical strategies to advance translational oncology programs
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure timely execution and success of projects
• Prepare and present research findings to project teams and leadership
• Write research articles for peer-reviewed publications

Position Requirements:

• PhD in Cancer Biology or related field with 5-8 years experience in murine models of cancer disease modeling
• Experience using both xenograft and mouse syngeneic tumor models for cancer intrinsic and immuno-oncology research, respectively
• Extensive experience planning and conducting efficacy and PK/PD experiments for protein and small molecule based therapeutics 
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional environment to coordinate complex in vivo experiments with multiple endpoints
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate challenges within project timelines and identify the critical path activities for drug development
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and maintain detailed documentation
• Thorough knowledge of IACUC guidelines/regulations and experience in writing animal use protocols, experimental study design protocols, and standard operating procedures for preclinical studies
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present research findings clearly at team meetings
• Must be willing to work onsite five days a week

The estimated base salary range for this role is $163,000 - $201,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.
