Job Description:

Join a growing agency shaping Nebraska’s racing and gaming industry! The Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission seeks a part-time temporary Accountant II to support financial operations. If you’re detail-oriented and familiar with state accounting systems, this role offers meaningful work in a collaborative team. You’ll handle accounts payable, receivable, procurement, and budgeting- ensuring accuracy and efficiency. Ready to make an impact? We’d love to hear from you!

*This position will be 20 hours per week on average and is expected to last one year.


 

Examples of Work

  • Accounts Payable (AP): Reviewing payment batches for correctness and approving payment batches in Enterprise One.
  • Accounts Receivable (AR): Reviewing and approving deposit batches in Enterprise One, updating check register, and sending past due notices.
  • Procurement: Creating contracts or purchase orders, approving and receipting purchase orders.
  • Budget: Reviewing monthly budget reports, entering budget numbers into Enterprise One, and creating and reviewing journal entries to correct expenditures.


 

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, statistics or related field and experience with accounting/financial management systems OR 2 years’ experience with professional accounting procedures including developing and modifying accounting/financial management systems.

Preferred Qualifications: Prior accounting experience in State government and the use of Enterprise One for accounting activities. Pre-audit certified. Knowledge of State procurement policies and procedures is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate.  

Other: Individuals selected for this position will be prohibited from participating in gambling activities at a Nebraska Casino or racetrack during this assignment.

  • Knowledge of state accounting systems and state accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, procedures, laws, and other work directives.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work product.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Dependable; reliable attendance.
