Software Development Engineer III

Location: Hershey, PA

This will be a Hybrid position.

 

 

Overview: 

 

Designs, develops, tests, supports, and improves applications. Works across the entire software development lifecycle to meet business needs.

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

• Works on entire features, breaking them down into individual tasks. May hand off some of those tasks to other engineers. ​

• Designs, implements, tests and integrates new features and functionality related to the team's software​

• Diagnoses and fixes typical bugs in the team’s codebase. Usually produces acceptable code without much feedback. Designs the implementation of individual features.​

• Supports the team's software systems as part of an on-call rotation​

• Assists in the development of testing and operational automation​

• Partially understands business needs; designs and delivers solutions to meet them

 

Technical Requirements/Scope Defining:

• Focused on architecture/product solutions.​

• Influence may extend to related teams in the course of a project. Advises peers, managers, Sr leaders and product owners​

• Front End engineer: Web (JavaScript, TypeScript, React, CSS); Mobile (Android/iOS)​

• Back End engineer: API Design, Services, Data access

 

Qualifications:

 

• Full stack programming experience (front end, back end, and data layer)​

• Experience with testing at all levels (unit, integration, functional)​

• Understanding of continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI/CD)​

• Source code management using version-control tools and best practices​

• Software design and monitoring, alerting, and supporting software systems​

• Project management: familiar with project lifecycle and able to drive work to completion​

• UI design: able to consider user needs and usability (empathy for users)​

• Able to learn new programming languages and frameworks independently

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience needed in software development, software engineering or information services​

• Experience designing and delivering multiple non-trivial software systems​

• Proven track record of picking up new technology as needed​

• Experience supporting software systems
