About the role

Description

The University of Chicago, Division of the Social Sciences seeks applicants for a part-time Lecturer 1B in the Master of Arts Program in the Social Sciences (MAPSS) to teach in the Winter or Spring Quarter of 2026. The successful candidate(s) will teach one course related to the practice and application of social science research in the non-profit, for-profit, or government sectors. We are particularly interested in applied courses in the areas of grant writing and fundraising; public history (museums, exhibitions, curatorial); policy development and analysis; public opinion; business intelligence and strategy; program or project management; and/or civic engagement and public leadership. We are not currently seeking courses in User Experience or Design Research.

 

We seek applicants who can teach courses of interest to graduate students in the Social Sciences Division and advanced undergraduates in the College.

Applicants who can teach in person in Hyde Park, either during the day or in the evening (1-2 times per week) strongly preferred.

 

This appointment is renewable depending on funding and programmatic need.

 

The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the University.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD or MA with relevant equivalent professional experience (5+ years) in their teaching area by the start of the appointment.
