POSITION SUMMARY: Strategic Commodity Planner will be responsible for forecasting future inventory needs based off of past purchasing and usage trends. The Strategic Commodity Planner will monitor needs versus availability based on previously negotiated contracts to ensure that all warehouses, companywide, have sufficient stock as it relates to construction. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage activities within an assigned commodity related to purchasing or material requirement planning
- Analyzes sales data, trends, and customer demands to create inventory forecasts
- Build relationships and communicate with the suppliers’ anticipated needs based on the inventory forecasts created
- Monitor multimillion dollar inventory levels to ensure that they remain within set parameters
- Coordinate material movement between sites to ensure proper inventory levels and reduced impact to operation needs
- Identify current and potential product shortages, develop and execute recovery, advise interested parties of status and recovery plans
- Key point person when it comes to all things planning and inventory related to assigned commodities
- Develop and implement strategies to create an efficient supply chain and reduce commodity purchase cost
- Adhere to commodity re-quote plan to ensure best price available
- Research potential suppliers and compare their products, pricing, and services
- Utilize the Material Requirement Planning system (MRP) to ensure that the data is accurate and up-to-date
- Continuous review of catalog for Part Catalog Standardization
- Spearhead the transition and phasing out of old products to new and advise interested parties of status and plan
- Performs duties with minimal direction from management
- Hold other employees accountable to standard operating procedures as established
- Deliver updates and reports as required
- Develop ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value, aid business performance, and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High School Graduate or GED
- Minimum of 4-year experience with purchasing and forecasting
- An analytical mind with strong math skills
- Excellent organizational and planning skills
- Working knowledge of inventory management software
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Suite, Google Suite
- Ability to accurately track inventory and create reports
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
- Excellent customer service and organizational skills
- Reliable and trustworthy
- Attention to detail
- Regularly spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers
- Regularly move from sitting to standing positions effortlessly
- Regularly spend long hours in intense concentration reviewing and entering information into a computer
- Regularly use hands and fingers to handle, control or feel objects
