RESEARCH TECH II – Staats Lab, Department of Pathology

 

This position is 100% grant funded.

 

  • Occ Summary: Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting laboratory tests, experiments and determinations in support of Duke University research operations.

 

Work Performed: This position will perform immunization studies in mice. Mice will be immunized by various routes (injection routes, intranasal routes, sublingual routes, gastric routes). Serum and mucosal samples will be collected after immunization. This position must also perform laboratory assays such as ELISA to monitor vaccine-induced, antigen-specific antibody responses. This position must adhere to established lab data management standard operating procedures and follow established experimental protocols. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. This position is for a specific project and the project funding is expected to last approximately one year, with the possibility of renewal for additional years.

Prepare culture media, chemical reagents and solutions. Clean and maintain laboratory equipment.  Maintain sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment. Determine and set up instruments, material and apparatus.  Review laboratory method manual, scientific journals, and abstracts. Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments and compile, analyze, document and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results; physical, chemical, biological and other research laboratory tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data for research purposes; develop plans for research experiments; make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the particular equipment as required. Other literature for information applicable to research experiments, laboratory equipment required for specific tests.

 

 

Required Qualifications at this level

Education/Training: Work requires B.A/ B.S or higher degree in biology, biochemistry, or a closely related field.

 

Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.

 

 

Experience

None required above education/training requirement. Experience working with animals is preferred.
