About the role

The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School.  The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the state, and is conveniently located in the central city, with easy access to all services and Hobart’s waterfront and inner suburbs.

The Department of Neurology at RHH is fully accredited for neurology training and provides management of an average of 20 neurology and stroke inpatients, plus serves a wide range of subspecialty clinics and neurophysiology services.  We provide a rewarding and supportive training environment, with regular protected teaching sessions and financially supported professional development.  Further information on the department is available at https://www.anzan.org.au/neurologytraining/trainingpositions_displayhospitaldetails.asp?HospitalID=23.

Note that prospective first and second year core advanced trainees in neurology need to apply for RHH positions through the match process co-ordinated by ANZAN – see https://www.anzan.org.au/neurologytraining/recruitmentoftrainees.asp.

The information and application links here are for an elective/fellowship year at RHH, in neuroimmunology/multiple sclerosis and neuromuscular/neurophysiology.  This position includes multiple outpatient clinics and NCS/EMG sessions per week, aiming to achieve subspecialisation in these fields and level 2 NCS/EMG proficiency.

Further information on this position will be available soon at http://www.anzan.org.au/employment/positionsvacant.asp.

This position is again expected to be funded by the Commonwealth STP program and is for registrars completing physician training with the RACP in Australia.  It is therefore not available to overseas applicants seeking a single year of practice in Australia.

Salary

Base salary is $134,930 to $189,005 per annum, depending on experience (3rd year registrars would usually commence at a base of at least $148,320).  Note that the total remuneration package is well supplemented by an on call allowance, overtime rates, and phone call and call back rates when on call.  These allowances would typically increase salary by around $30,000-$40,000 over base.  The position is also expected to include a STP regional support loading of $25,000, the latter of which can be used for rental payments in Hobart and professional development.
