About Our Job

Job Description:

Conduct training in a classroom environment to prepare County employees to obtain their Class A or Class B CDL, along with any required endorsements, within the appropriate timeframe.

  • Create and facilitate classroom training for County employees on topics including but not limited to:  rules of the road, customer service, defensive driving skills, safety, security, compliance regulations, Substance Abuse, sensitivity training and applicable HR and Safety Manual policies and guidelines.
  • Maintain records regarding training completed by County employees as needed for compliance purposes.
  • Create and facilitate refresher training for existing employees upon request.
  • Maintain the training with any federal law or regulation updates.

Provide behind-the-wheel / road training for County employees.

  • Create and conduct behind-the-wheel / road training for County employees to demonstrate safe operation of vehicles including but not limited to: driving skills,  pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and customer service.
  • Facilitate all aspects to securing trainees’ CDL training and testing.
  • Provide re-training for those existing employees identified as needing additional skills refreshment.
  • Schedule fully trained employees with a third party CDL tester, to obtain the CDL license.

Assists Public Works and Public Utilities Departments with accident investigations:

  • Report to the scene of accident to assess/review the scene and act as an assistant to the Risk Department Representative.
  • Assist with coordinating appropriate follow up needs in regard to medical needs and/or drug and alcohol testing.
  • Work closely with department supervisor, Risk/Safety Advisor and HR Business Partner on the investigation and any recommendations.
  • Create/conduct any necessary refresher training determined from investigation.
  • Participate in various department meetings or committees upon request.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. -  5:00 p.m.
  

  

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Communication, or related field AND one year of job-related experience.
  • -OR- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university AND two (2) years of job-related experience in the water treatment field.
  • -OR- Professional-related experience may substitute for the required degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • A valid Florida Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of hire.
  • A valid Florida Driver's License at the time of hire. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in creating and implementing training materials.
  • Experience in accident and safety investigations.

Physical Demands:  Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

About Everything Else

Starting Pay Range: $53,456.00 - $58,000.00/ annually, based on experience.
