Position Overview:  

General Catalyst is seeking a Tax Manager to help navigate the increasingly complex tax landscape both domestically and abroad.  The Tax Manager will have a broad scope of responsibilities across the tax function servicing the GC Portfolio including portfolio companies, SPVs/AIVs, Funds, GP entities and the Management company structure.  This opportunity will provide insight into the inner workings of many aspects of the firm. In a data driven world, this individual will strive to bridge the gap of tax and technology aiming to drive insights through data automation and innovation.

A sample of responsibilities:

Tax Compliance

• Real time analysis and review of fund activity for various tax impacts
• Preparation, filing and payment of quarterly tax estimates, reporting disclosures and returns
• Annual compliance review of 3rd party prepared tax returns and partnership allocations 
• Monitoring and preparation of various domestic and foreign tax and non-income tax reporting obligations (Property Taxes/1099s/DE Annual Reports/Transfer Pricing/Foreign Withholding/FATCA/CRS)
• Coordination of various third party advisors including tax, legal and accounting
• Collect, validate and maintain Investor data
• Research and respond to government notices as well as various LP and GP requests
• Manage and assist in development of internal tax tools utilized to streamline compliance process

Formation, Structuring & Analysis

• Participate in strategy sessions to highlight tax impacts on various structuring discussions with respect to Funds, GPs & Management Company structuring
• Assist in the entity formation and dissolution process
• Provide tax planning advice for Individual GPs and Management Company owners 
• Develop and enhance various LP & GP reporting disclosures
• Maintain awareness of the current tax environment though research of the latest tax proposals, policies and industry viewpoints
• Assist in various projects as the business grows

Examples of desirable skills, knowledge and experience

• 5-8 years of investment partnership taxation in public accounting or a private firm
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, tax, finance or information systems (Masters in Tax and/or CPA desirable) (Minor in Data Science or CIS desirable)
• Strong understanding of partnership/individual tax concepts
• Experience with Database Management, Data processing and visualization tools (ie. Alteryx, SQL, PowerBI) and strong understanding of data structuring (SQL/Python a plus)
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using other Microsoft products and G Suite
