Position Summary

Bechtel is seeking a Deputy Project Superintendent to join the site construction group for the Cardinal Project, Columbus, OH. The Deputy Project Superintendent is responsible for supporting the Site Manager in all aspects of the construction operations including all direct hire craft, indirect craft, and subcontractor work activities throughout the Project. The Deputy Project Superintendent is responsible for working with the other members of the construction team to finalize the construction execution plan including the detailed plan for service subcontractors, field non-manual staffing plan, temporary facilities plan, temporary utilities plan, traffic management plan, and site security plan. The Deputy Project Superintendent will work with project controls to gain a full understanding of the construction indirects schedule and cost components to help establish the method for tracking progress and performance in the field. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Implementing the project ES&H program and quality control program. 
  • Providing leadership and championing the “Zero Accidents” philosophy. 
  • Maintaining a positive relationship with the owner and an effective relationship with the project home office team and other functional departments. 
  • Supporting the development and implementation of a training program to ensure jobsite personnel receive progressive training to enable them to assume additional responsibilities. 
  • Performing employee reviews for subordinate personnel and assisting in their development.
  • Supervising the project leadership team at the jobsite which manages all aspects of the execution of the work. 
  • Ensuring corporate policies and procedures are fully implemented and establishing project field procedures and objectives within corporate policies and procedures as necessitated by conditions at the jobsite. 
  • Ensuring all construction operations are in compliance with quality standards and that all jobsite activities are completed on schedule in accordance with the approved plan. 
  • Controlling jobsite expenditures for labor, equipment, materials, and services and ensuring that field operations remain within the budgets. 
  • Approving the layout and locations of all temporary facilities throughout the jobsite. 
  • Coordinating and prioritizing the needs of the various areas for craft personnel, subcontractors, construction services, construction equipment, tools, and consumables as well as optimizing their utilization. 
  • Coordinating and supporting all subcontractor work activities throughout the jobsite. 
  • Resolving all jobsite craft labor relations issues and coordinating these activities with the functional industrial relations department. 
  • Supporting the development and implementation of a craft skills training program including skills verification testing.

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited university, with a minimum of 10 years relevant work experience OR specialized courses in construction technology and management, and/or prior practical work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge described above, with a minimum of 15 years relevant work experience.

 

Additional Qualifications:

  • Must have knowledge and understanding of all phases of construction operations at the jobsite.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role such as an Area Superintendent, Area Manager, Project Superintendent, and/or Deputy Site Man
