Job Duties

Richard Bland College (RBC) is a residential, two-year liberal arts transfer institution dedicated to preparing students for successful transfer to highly ranked colleges and universities. Often considered a hidden gem just beyond the Tri-Cities region, the College is set within a picturesque rural campus spanning more than 750 acres of wetlands, serene forests, and the state’s oldest and largest pecan grove.

RBC is currently seeking qualified candidates for the Food Service Supervisor position. In this role, the incumbent will provide direct supervision and guidance to Food Service Workers under the direction of the Operations Manager, while also supporting and mentoring less experienced team members.

The Food Service Supervisor will actively participate in daily food service operations, performing a variety of tasks including preparing and processing customer orders, supporting the Dining Manager or designee with inventory tracking, receiving, and organization, and assisting with special event orders as needed.

This position requires strong customer service and communication skills, with a focus on maintaining positive working relationships with both staff and customers. The incumbent is also responsible for promoting a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to and enforcing established safety policies, procedures, and best practices, as well as effectively communicating safety-related information to team members.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• Valid Virginia Driver’s License
• Ability to accurately operate a Point-of-Sale system and cash register
• Ability to routinely bend, walk, and stoop
• Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 20 lbs
• Ability to stock inventory and rotate products
• Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at RBC.

Additional Considerations

• Serve-Safe certification or currently obtaining certification
• Strong coaching skills as evidenced by experience leading teams of 3 or more employees
• Significant experience with restaurant operations as evidenced by extensive POS register experience
• Experience processing student dining cards, handling cash, and voiding transactions on a register
