Job Description

The overall purpose of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is to provide essential support and care to patients under the supervision of nurses and physicians.  CNAs assist with daily living activities such as bathing, feeding, and mobility, as well as performing vital signs checks, aiding in examinations, and maintaining patient documentation. They ensure patient comfort and safety while facilitating effective communication between patients and healthcare providers. Certified Nursing Assistants work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, and military facilities. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of nurses and physicians, ensuring comfort and safety. 
  • Assist patients with daily living activities, including bathing, feeding, dressing, and mobility. 
  • Measure and record vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate. 
  • Assist with patient examinations and procedures as directed by medical staff. 
  • Maintain accurate patient documentation and update medical records as necessary. 
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of patient care areas and equipment. 
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new staff or students when applicable. 
  • Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team members to facilitate care. 
  • Follow infection control protocols and maintain compliance with safety regulations.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements/Certifications:  

  • Must hold an active, unrestricted CNA certification from a recognized training institution or government-sponsored developmental program.  
  • Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. 
  • Minimum of one year of CNA experience within the past three years in a relevant healthcare setting. 

Education Required: 

  • Completion of a state-approved CNA training program. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to stand, walk, lift, and bend for extended periods.  
  • May be exposed to contagious diseases, radiation, and high-stress environments. 

Other Special Qualifications: 

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate. 
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required. 
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance. 

Additional Information

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data. 

Compensation Min: $15hr        Max: $30hr
