Leaf Technical Quality Manager

 

 

 

Your Role and Purpose


The purpose of this position is to manage a team of Technical Quality Lab employees, both permanent and seasonal, to ensure the quality and consistency of packed leaf processed at the Danville leaf factory. The individual will collaborate closely with the Leaf Processing and Leaf Procurement Implementation teams, as well as Global Technical Quality, to monitor and adjust leaf processing settings. Additionally, this role serves as the IWS Process Lead, responsible for the implementation and continuous improvement of IWS methodologies across the Leaf Processing Cell. The individual will lead cross-functional teams to optimize processes, enhance operational efficiency, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

 

What Will You Do

 

Quality Lab Testing: Oversee daily testing at the JTI Leaf Services processing facility to ensure it is conducted in a controlled, certified environment as outlined by GLTQ standards. Ensure that quality standards are achieved, documented, and reported to all concerned parties in a timely manner. Ensure all laboratory equipment is properly calibrated. Work with the maintenance team to ensure laboratory monitoring equipment is being properly inspected, certiifed as required and maintained during processing and non-processing season to achieve optimum performance. Ensure technical quality staff are qualified, properly trained on procedures, and deliver reliable data to the processing floor promptly, allowing necessary adjustments to processing equipment to be made

 

Ensure Technical Quality Standards: Collaborate with the JTILS Processing Managers, Leaf Blending team and Leaf Procurement Implementation representative to ensure the processing facility meets or exceeds JT/JTI technical quality standards. If a product falls below company standards, resulting in a Non-Conformity, conduct a detailed investigation to identify the root cause. Develop a plan to address the Non-Conformity and share the plan details with local management, GLTQ, and Global Leaf Quality

 

Data Quality and Reporting: Collaborate with GLTQ to share data, analysis, and best practices achieved at the JTI Leaf Services facility. Share best practice procedures from other JTI facilities with local Leaf Processing team. Be a Power user for QIM's data collection and reporting, as well as F2S Power user for Leafpoint and SAP

 

Safety: Follow all safety protocols and procedures, ensure lab and shop floor practices comply with EHS standards, including labor safety, fire protection, environmental and hygienic company rules, and equipment safety. Educate subordinates to strictly adhere to the 5S3R rules and make sure they participate in necessary safety programs (i.e. BOS, etc.)

 

Perform IWS Process Lead Responsibilities: Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of IWS methodologies across the Leaf Processing Cell. Lead cross-functional teams to optimize processes, enhance operational efficiency, and foster a culture of continuous improvement

 

People management (if applicable): Recruit, motivate, and share knowledge with the team reporting directly and indirectly, including permanent and seasonal JTI staff. Set goals, evaluate performance, and provide feedback. Ensure the team has the necessary resources. Oversee work ethics and discipline within the assigned department.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably tobacco-related or equivalent), with an additional 2 years of experience in management or a leadership role;
