About the role

Job Summary:

The Office of Orientation and First Year Experience facilitates the transition of new students and their families through comprehensive and progressive programs resulting from best practices in the field, partnerships with academic and student affairs, and collaboration with the other departments within the CSUSB community. Orientation and First Year Experience Office at California State University, San Bernardino is committed to providing programs and services that will aid and facilitate the transition of our new students and their family members into CSUSB. At every event we strive to make new students and their family members feel welcomed and appreciated, while promoting and exposing new students to the array of intellectual, cultural and social opportunities offered to them at CSUSB.

The following is a summary of expected duties. The list is not comprehensive and additional duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Exhibit commitment to the vision and mission of New Student Orientation and Family Programs.
  • Work and participate in all orientation programs, which serve first year students, transfer students, and parents, families, and guests
  • Professionally serve the University community by working with diverse student and family populations to welcome all guests and provide them with a seamless transition to CSUSB

The following expectations have been established to ensure the best possible experience for new students, the Orientation Leader team, and New Student Orientation and Family Programs.

  • Abide by all University policies and standards of student conduct.
  • Make first year students, transfer students, and their families and guests feel welcomed to CSUSB.
  • Be on time and actively participate in all trainings and Orientation-related events with a positive and professional attitude.
  • Learn campus information in order to represent all CSUSB campus departments and organizations equally and accurately.
  • Actively participate in all aspects of orientation programming.
  • Consistently and reliably act with integrity.
  • Dress appropriately and follow orientation staff dress code as established.
  • Take care of yourself mentally and physically through self-care and wellness practices.
  • Report any violation of university or orientation policies to supervisors immediately.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.
  • As a Bridge Student Assistant, the student need not be registered as a student, but must have been enrolled as a CSU student the previous term and is registered for the following term.

Required Qualifications:

  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of 2.5 throughout term of position.
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn about CSUSB, its regulations, its people, and its programs and to share the information with others.
  • Possess the following role model qualities: maturity, responsibility, initiative, motivation, flexibility, enthusiasm, integrity, and a good work ethic.
  • Be a degree-seeking student at CSUSB; must maintain satisfactory academic progress towards degree completion.
  • Uphold all aspects of CSUSB’s Student Conduct Code and be free of disciplinary sanctions.
  • Exhibit leadership potential, good interpersonal communication, and group presentation skills.
  • Be a returning student to CSUSB in Fall 2025.

Compensation and Benefits:

Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.50 per hour.

The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.

Position Information:

Work status: Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal

Academic year available hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm).

Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).
