Summary of Job Duties:
As an integral part of the UAMS Surgical and Cardiovascular Intensive Care team, the APRN works collaboratively with the attending physicians and residents to ensure continuity of care to the Cardiovascular and Surgical Intensive Care patients. The ICU APRN's help plan, implement and evaluate health care treatments. Daily rounds, a variety of procedures, monitoring patient progress, and providing patient and family education, are part of the wide scope of practice. The APRN's work closely with case managers and social workers to coordinate the discharge process. In addition, APRN's function as a liaison to bedside nurses and ancillary staff in collaboration with physicians. Clinical Practice:
Gathers information systematically and skillfully from all sources for both new and established patients: past medical history, diagnostic tests, comprehensive physical examination, behavioral, developmental and psychosocial assessments, differentiating between normal and abnormal variations for all body systems and accurately interpreting diagnostic tests.
Utilizes critical thinking and the nursing process in the assessment and identification of patient/family long and short term physical, psychosocial, educational and cultural needs for assigned patient populations.
Provides ongoing and follow-up care and patient/family education.
