Join Pratt & Whitney’s Mechanical Systems & Externals Engineering team as a Lead Technical Drafter and play a crucial role in shaping cutting-edge solutions for military programs. In this dynamic position, you'll provide expert technical and operational product definition while supporting innovative design efforts that drive defense engineering forward. What You Will Do:

  • Perform substantially varied and highly complex tasks, including 3D modeling skills and graphical product definition; creation of 3D models to support design; With minimal guidance from Design and PD Leads,  perform general design tasks, including support of parametric CICR content, tolerance stack-ups, and input of engineering standard work.
  • Create Model-Based Definition with tolerancing per ASME Y14.5/PWA79460.  Apply and interpret geometric form control for manufacturing and inspection.  Apply dimensional stack-up techniques, including ASME Y14.5 influences.  Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned tasks and goals. Apply and understand key concepts of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing,  Unigraphics/NX, and Teamcenter/NX Manager.
  • Self-check own work to ensure accuracy and adherence to Product Definition Standard Processes in the communication of Design Intent, which includes the ability to apply and interpret Geometric Form Control to ASME Y14.5M- standards; Create error-free parametric 3D models and other definition files to meet Design intent and Product Definition standard work using the UGS NX graphics software; Self-check model/tolerance files (using the UGS NX graphics software) meeting Product Definition standard work which includes the application of tolerancing techniques per part family Engineering Standard Work and must consider manufacturability and inspection considerations.  
  • Assist in orienting, training, assigning, and checking the work of other employees.
  • Act as a go-to resource for resolving complex issues and escalate only the most challenging problems to higher levels.
  • Travel up to 10% (Domestic).

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Associate's degree (or other 2-year post-high school training) with 8 years of relevant experience in design or product definition.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Associate's Degree in a related field such as: Drafting/Design Technology.
  • 3D Solid Modeling.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Tolerancing or Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing professional certification, GDTP Y14.5.
  • Understand key concepts in their discipline (PD ESW, GD&T, Unigraphics/N, Teamcenter/NX Manager, BCT Raster).
  • General Manufacturing Processes.
  • Familiarity with bearing compartments and gear drive systems, externals, engine fuel, lube, and air system hardware.
