CONTRACT LENGTH: 12 Months renewable (subject to performance and funding)

REMUNERATION: 

The gross monthly salary for this position is between XOF 2.017.313 and 3.328 567. per month.

The setting of the remuneration will be based on the level of responsibility of the position, the candidate’s experience and internal equity.

SAFEGUARDING: Level 3

The position holder will have regular contact with children, beneficiaries, and employees either frequently (e.g., once a week or more) or intensively (e.g., four days in a month or more, or overnight) because they work on national programs, visit country programs, or are responsible for program implementation. In such cases, a legal background check will be mandatory.

ROLE PURPOSE: 

Save the Children (SC) is seeking a Project Director (PD) for an anticipated 4.5-year U.S. Department of Labor-funded Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB) Project in Côte d’Ivoire. The project will increase the number of cocoa cooperatives demonstrating a reduction of child labor in the cocoa supply chain in Côte d’Ivoire. The project will link with the Government of Côte d’Ivoire’s efforts to improve accountability of cocoa cooperatives to monitor child labor in the cocoa supply chain and increase support to vulnerable cocoa households within cocoa cooperatives in the cocoa growing areas. 

This senior leadership position will provide overall strategic direction in the design, management, implementation and overall quality assurance of the project. The PD will be Save the Children’s primary point of contact with the Bureau of International Labor Affairs of the U.S. Department of Labor and all other relevant stakeholders, including the local partners. S/he will collaborate with relevant Ministries and agencies in Côte d’Ivoire and other critical partners to provide high-level support for effective capacity building at the local level and sustainability of the project interventions. The PD will ensure adherence to overall technical and programmatic quality in implementation, compliance with donor rules and regulations, and the timely submission of all deliverables. The PD will also be responsible for the overall direction and coordination of the project activities of all sub-recipient partners. 

The PD will oversee a team of experts and project staff, prepare reports and annual operating plans, align project initiatives with in-country priorities and ensure the project is compliant with the U.S. government and Save the Children’s regulations. The project will be designed to align closely with the current objectives of the Government of Côte d’Ivoire for combating child labor, so that activities are complementary and create sustainable solutions. 

 

In the event of a major humanitarian crisis, the role holder will be required to work outside the normal role profile and adjust working hours accordingly.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Technical Leadership

  • Establish and guide overall technical direction of the project.

Staff Management and Supervision 

  • Supervise key program staff, both technical and managerial, and oversee the hiring process of all local personnel.

Partner and sub-grantee management 

  • Provide oversight and coordination with international and national sub-recipient partners. 
  • Serve as key liaison with Save the Children partners and any local sub-grantees.
  • Provide overall coordination of the institutional/organizational and technical capacity building of local partners and stakeholders.

Lead the program’s strategic, financial, and operational planning, including the annual work planning process and development of an appropriate exit strategy. 

  • Ensure that efficient systems to support all aspects of the program including sub-grant management, financial, capacity building and performance monitoring and reporting are in place and support the effective use of program resources in compliance with USG regulations and Save the Children policies.
